‘Crystal Lake’ Trailer Reveals the Terrifying Truth About Jason Voorhees This Halloween

A new chapter in the Friday the 13th mythology is coming this Halloween season.

A24 and Peacock have unveiled the official trailer for Crystal Lake, the highly anticipated prequel series that takes fans back to the origins of Jason Voorhees and his mother, Pamela.

Before Jason became the masked killer haunting Crystal Lake, there was Pamela Voorhees.

The trailer opens in the summer of 1971, showing a young Jason drowning in Crystal Lake. The story then moves forward as Pamela struggles to cope with the death of her son, while becoming increasingly convinced that Jason may still be alive.

And that’s where things get particularly interesting.

One chilling line from the trailer asks Pamela:

“What do you think the good people of Crystal Lake would say if they knew what you and Jason really were?”

The mystery could finally address one of the biggest unanswered questions in the Friday the 13th franchise: how exactly did Jason survive his childhood drowning, and how did he eventually become the seemingly unstoppable killer fans know today?

The series follows Pam Voorhees, a single mother who remains consumed by grief nearly a year after her sickly young son Jason drowned in the town’s infamous lake. When two strangers arrive at her home investigating her past, a disturbing series of events begins to unfold, forcing the people of Crystal Lake to question who Pamela Voorhees really is.

Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and Callum Vinson (Chucky) as young Jason.

The eight-episode series premieres October 15 on Peacock, just in time for Halloween.

Brad Caleb Kane (IT: Welcome to Derry) serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Kane, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox, and Roy Lee.

The series also stars William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom, with recurring appearances from Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik.

Episodes were directed by Michael Lennox (Derry Girls), Celine Held and Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (The Pitt).
