Slayground horror movie poster revealing the January 29, 2027 release date

A24’s Slayground, the upcoming haunted house horror movie from filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room, Blue Ruin), will arrive in theaters on January 29, 2027. The studio has unveiled a new poster for the Halloween-set horror film, with a full trailer scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

After years of exploring crime thrillers and intense character-driven stories, Saulnier appears ready to return to full-blown horror with a movie centered on a haunted house attraction where the terror goes far beyond the usual Halloween scares.

Although plot details remain largely under wraps, the film’s premise and newly revealed poster are already building anticipation for what could be a particularly unsettling start to 2027.

Slayground Poster Reveals January 2027 Release Date

A24 has released a new poster for Slayground, confirming that the film will open in theaters on January 29, 2027.

So far, audiences have only seen brief glimpses of the project through teaser footage. The upcoming full trailer should offer a better look at Saulnier’s latest film, including its haunted attraction and the horrors waiting inside.

The movie reportedly takes place around Halloween, making its January release a chance for horror fans to revisit the spooky season well before October rolls around again.

Official plot details have yet to be revealed, but the haunted house setting suggests a story built around the familiar boundary between staged scares and genuine terror.

Jeremy Saulnier Returns to Horror After Green Room

Saulnier made a significant impact on genre cinema with Green Room (2015), an exceptionally tense thriller about a punk band trapped in a venue controlled by violent neo-Nazis.

The filmmaker had already demonstrated his interest in dark, unconventional stories with the Halloween-set horror comedy Murder Party (2007) and the revenge thriller Blue Ruin (2013). Following Green Room, however, he increasingly focused on crime and suspense with projects such as Hold the Dark and Rebel Ridge.

While those films delivered plenty of tension, Slayground appears poised to bring Saulnier back into more explicitly terrifying territory.

With a haunted house attraction at the center of the story, the film also gives the filmmaker an opportunity to explore the unsettling contrast between entertainment and real danger.

Slayground Cast Includes Imogen Poots, Sophie Wilde, and Stephen Root

The upcoming A24 horror movie features an ensemble cast of familiar faces from horror, television, and independent cinema.

The confirmed cast includes:

  • Imogen Poots (Green Room)
  • James Badge Dale (The Empty Man)
  • Matty Matheson (The Bear)
  • Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night)
  • Chase Sui Wonders (I Know What You Did Last Summer)
  • Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me)
  • Young Mazino (The Last of Us)
  • Stephen Root (Widow’s Bay)

The combination of rising genre stars and established performers gives Slayground a cast well suited to a horror story built around escalating tension and an increasingly dangerous environment.

Further character details and specific story information have not yet been disclosed.

Slayground Joins a Long Tradition of Haunted Attraction Horror

Haunted attractions have provided fertile ground for horror filmmakers for decades. These settings are designed to frighten visitors, but the premise becomes far more disturbing when the threats stop being part of the show.

Classic films such as The Funhouse (1981) and Ghoulies II (1988) explored the dark side of carnival attractions and entertainment venues. More recent movies have continued to revisit the concept, including Hell House LLC, Haunt, The Houses October Built, and Hell Fest.

These films exploit the uneasy feeling of entering a place where fear is supposed to be fun, only to discover that something much more dangerous may be happening.

With Slayground, Saulnier could bring his distinctive approach to suspense and violence to another variation on the haunted attraction concept. Whether the film will stand out among the genre’s many haunted house stories remains to be seen, but its premise offers plenty of room for the filmmaker to build tension.

A24 will release Slayground in theaters on January 29, 2027. The full trailer is expected to provide a closer look at the upcoming horror movie.
