‘Twisted Metal’ Season 3 Wraps Filming as Anthony Mackie Teases an Even Bigger Season
The demolition derby is getting ready to return. Twisted Metal star Anthony Mackie has confirmed that filming on the third season of Peacock’s video game adaptation has officially wrapped, while teasing an even bigger and more explosive chapter ahead.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Mackie revealed that the creative team set out to raise the stakes for Season 3, promising more outrageous action and destruction.
The actor explained that the goal was to “elevate the third season,” with the team finding new ways to “blow people up and kill sh-t” and take the series to “a whole ‘nother level.”
Mackie also praised the returning cast and the evolution of the story, highlighting his on-screen partnership with Stephanie Beatriz.
“We were able to get everybody back, and we were able to evolve the story so much more. And [we were] lucky enough to get Anthony Carrigan back. It’s just a really fun season. I feel like if you watch Season 2 from Season 1, you see, ‘Wow, there’s really something happening here.’ And Season 3 just goes off the Richter, man. And Stephanie Beatriz is just an awesome partner. I feel like we’re a great duo, man. Everything is just rock-paper-scissors to see who’s gonna get punched in the face next. You get to see all of that again in Season 3. So, it’s amazing.”
Major Changes Ahead for Season 3
Despite Mackie’s enthusiasm about bringing the cast back together, Season 3 has undergone some significant changes behind the scenes.
David Reed has taken over as showrunner, replacing original series showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith. The new season also comes with notable changes to the on-screen lineup.
One of the biggest talking points among fans is the absence of Mike Mitchell, who played Stu during the first two seasons. Stu emerged as a major character in the show’s second season, even winning the Twisted Metal tournament in the finale. That ending appeared to set up an important role for him moving forward, making his absence from Season 3 particularly noticeable.
The decision has prompted frustration among some viewers, with fans organizing a “No Stu, No Stream” campaign in protest. Some have even threatened to cancel their Peacock subscriptions rather than watch the new season without the character.
Based on Mackie’s comments, however, the creative team is confident that the next chapter will deliver bigger action and further develop the show’s characters.
Twisted Metal Season 3 has wrapped filming, but Peacock has not yet announced a premiere date.
