SYFY Cancels Supernatural Mystery Series ‘Revival’ After One Season
SYFY has canceled its supernatural mystery series Revival after one season, ending the show’s run just as it becomes available to a wider audience on Netflix. Based on the comic book series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, the show blended supernatural horror, small-town mystery, and murder investigation into a story where the dead return to life without becoming zombies.
The cancellation was reported by Matt’s Inside Line. With Revival no longer moving forward, The Ark remains among SYFY’s few surviving original scripted series.
What Is Revival About?
Set in rural Wisconsin, Revival begins with an extraordinary event: the recently deceased suddenly return to life, appearing and behaving as they did before their deaths.
Rather than becoming mindless undead, the revived return to their families and communities, leaving the living to grapple with a world that no longer follows the rules they understand.
The story follows Dana Cypress, a local police officer and single mother who finds herself at the center of a brutal murder investigation. As fear and confusion spread through the town, Dana must uncover the truth in a case where anyone, living or dead, could be a suspect.
The series stars Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. Recurring guest stars include Steven Ogg, Phil Brooks (CM Punk), Gia Sandhu, Katherine King So, Maia Jae, Nathan Dales, Mark Little, Glen Gould, Lara Jean Chorostecki, and Conrad Coates.
Why Was Revival Canceled?
No official reason for the cancellation has been announced. However, the decision comes as traditional cable networks face growing competition from streaming services and continued declines in cable television viewership.
SYFY built its reputation on science fiction and horror, initially airing established genre favorites before expanding into original programming. Over the years, the network became home to series such as Battlestar Galactica, The Expanse, Wynonna Earp, and Ghost Hunters.
More recently, maintaining a slate of original shows has become increasingly challenging as audiences have shifted toward streaming platforms.
Could Revival Find a New Home?
The timing of the cancellation is notable because Season 1 recently arrived on Netflix, potentially introducing the series to viewers who missed its original 2025 release.
Although there is no confirmed effort to continue the show elsewhere, SYFY has previously seen canceled series find new life. The Expanse continued on Amazon after its cancellation at SYFY, while Wynonna Earp returned after its original run ended.
Those precedents offer a reason for fans to remain hopeful, but there is currently no announcement of a second season or a move to another network or streaming service.
Will Revival Return for Season 2?
For now, Revival remains canceled after its first season, and its future is uncertain.
The series was created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, who served as showrunners and executive producers. It is based on the comic book series of the same name, created by writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton and published by Image Comics from July 2012 to February 2017.
With its supernatural premise and murder-mystery storyline, Revival offered a different take on the undead genre. Whether another network or streaming service will give the series a second chance remains to be seen.
