Psychological survival horror game PENANCE is getting a playable demo during Steam Scream V Fest, which begins October 26. Publisher Kitsundie Tales and developer Furistic Studio will give players their first opportunity to experience the upcoming horror game during Steam’s Halloween-themed event.

The demo will remain available throughout Steam Scream V Fest and until the next Steam Next Fest, scheduled for February 2027. During that time, the development team plans to gather player feedback and use it to refine the game ahead of its full release.

What Is PENANCE About?

Currently targeting a February 2027 release on Steam, PENANCE follows Calen, a former ranger exploring a dangerous world where an ambitious attempt to save humanity has gone horribly wrong.

Calen’s wife, Sienna, has disappeared, leaving behind only a note. Determined to find her, he ventures into a hostile environment where deadly creatures emerge from the fog after nightfall.

Survival means uncovering the truth behind the catastrophe while navigating an increasingly dangerous world. As Calen searches for Sienna, the secrets he discovers could change everything he believes about the nightmare surrounding him.

Players can wishlist the game and follow its development on Steam.

Day and Night Mechanics Shape the Horror

One of PENANCE‘s central gameplay features is its day-and-night cycle, which changes the threats players must confront.

During the day, players have opportunities to explore their surroundings and face human enemies. Once night falls, however, creatures emerge from the fog, forcing players to rely on stealth and careful movement to survive.

Scavenging is also essential. Players must search for supplies and ammunition while managing the dangers of an environment that becomes increasingly threatening after dark.

The combination of exploration, resource management, and nighttime survival places an emphasis on preparation and strategic decision-making.

Developers Seek Player Feedback Ahead of Release

Kitsundie Tales and Furistic Studio are using the demo period to improve the experience ahead of launch, with particular attention to narrative immersion, atmosphere, and gameplay mechanics.

Players who encounter problems or have suggestions can submit feedback through the form available in the game’s menu or share their thoughts through the official PENANCE Discord server.

With its missing-person mystery, hostile world, and day-and-night survival mechanics, PENANCE is shaping up to be a psychological horror experience worth watching for fans of the genre.

The demo arrives during Steam Scream V Fest on October 26, while the full game is currently targeting a February 2027 release on Steam.
