Based on a story treatment written by horror legend George A. Romero before his death, Twilight of the Dead is being billed as the final chapter in the filmmaker’s iconic zombie saga. Now, the long-awaited project has officially wrapped production.

Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and Betty Gabriel (Get Out) lead the cast, which also includes Abigail London and John D. Hickman (Becky).

The Paz Brothers, known for Jeruzalem and The Golem, directed the zombie movie, while legendary special effects artist Greg Nicotero (Day of the Dead, The Walking Dead) is responsible for the film’s makeup effects.

Nicotero also shares a long history with Romero, having worked with the legendary filmmaker on Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, and Land of the Dead.

Twilight of the Dead takes place on a devastated Earth where the remaining human population finds itself caught between warring factions and an increasingly dangerous undead threat.

Magenta Light Studios (Strange Darling, Deep Water) has acquired the North American rights and plans to release the film theatrically across the United States and Canada.

“Stepping into Romero’s world is the ultimate privilege for any genre filmmaker,” the Paz Brothers said in a joint statement. “This is more than a continuation; it’s a responsibility. We are committed to honoring his voice while delivering a visceral, terrifying, impactful experience for today’s audience that resonates beyond the screen.”

With production now complete, Twilight of the Dead moves one step closer to bringing Romero’s final zombie story to the big screen.
