Kate Beckinsale & Ryan Phillippe Star in New Psychological Thriller ‘The Patient’ – First Look Revealed

Kate Beckinsale is returning to darker territory, this time alongside I Know What You Did Last Summer star Ryan Phillippe in the new psychological thriller The Patient.

Buffalo 8 Distribution has acquired the film for VOD release in December 2026, followed by a physical media release. A first look at the thriller has also been revealed.

In The Patient, Phillippe plays a man who wakes up inside a medical facility following a collision. Unable to properly move and with no memory of what happened, he’s told by the staff that his name is Dean Morris.

But he insists they have the wrong man.

He claims his real name is Andrew Wright, a nature photographer, setting up a mystery surrounding his identity as his treatment takes an increasingly disturbing turn.

Beckinsale stars as Dr. Rose, the mysterious attending physician treating him. As the circumstances surrounding his identity become harder to explain, Dean must figure out who he can trust before the truth—and any evidence of who he really is—disappears.

The film was written and directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil, who previously helmed The Immaculate Room, Collide, and Prey, the latter of which also starred Phillippe.

David Cade, Kelly Greyson, and Michael Sirow round out the cast.

Nikki Stier Justice, head of distribution at Buffalo 8, praised the film’s premise and the performances from Beckinsale and Phillippe, noting that the thriller constantly shifts what audiences believe as the mystery unfolds.

For horror fans, The Patient also marks another return to darker genre territory for Beckinsale, who became an icon of the genre as Selene in the Underworld franchise. Her horror credits also include Van Helsing, Vacancy, and Whiteout.

Beckinsale has another major horror project on the horizon as well. She recently replaced Milla Jovovich in Twilight of the Dead, the upcoming final installment in George A. Romero’s iconic zombie franchise.

The Patient arrives on VOD in December 2026, with a physical release to follow.
