‘They Follow’: Filming Wraps on Maika Monroe’s ‘It Follows’ Sequel

Filming has officially wrapped on They Follow, the long-awaited sequel to the 2014 horror hit It Follows.

Production company Curious Gremlin confirmed the news on Instagram, marking the end of principal photography on the highly anticipated sequel. No new images or story details were revealed, but the production wrap brings the movie one step closer to finally reaching theaters.

They Follow once again stars Maika Monroe as Jay, the protagonist of It Follows who became the target of a relentless shape-shifting entity after a sexual encounter in the original movie.

Released in 2014, It Follows initially had a relatively modest theatrical run before finding a much larger audience through streaming. David Robert Mitchell’s atmospheric horror movie went on to develop a devoted following, with its mysterious rules and seemingly unstoppable supernatural threat inspiring countless theories and interpretations.

Mitchell returns to write and direct They Follow, with Monroe reprising her role. The sequel also brings back another key element from the original: composer Disasterpeace, who is returning to create the score.

The cast includes Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children, A Nightmare on Elm Street), Justine Lupe (Succession), Anna Mirodin (Ivan), Jayne Taini (Unbelievable), Michael Gandolfini (Daredevil: Born Again), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Magnolia), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Brutalist), and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans).

Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice) has also joined the cast.

The pluralized title They Follow has already sparked speculation about a much larger story than the original. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the returning creative team and expanded cast suggest Mitchell is taking the sequel in a new direction.

For now, They Follow does not have an official release date.
