From the director of Host comes a terrifying new adaptation of Josh Malerman’s bestselling horror novel Incidents Around the House.

Universal Pictures will release Other Mommy in theaters on October 9, 2026, and the official trailer has arrived—offering a disturbing first look at the domestic nightmare waiting inside Bela’s home.

Directed by Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman), the film follows a young girl named Bela who forms a terrifying relationship with a sinister entity known as “Other Mommy.” The entity looks disturbingly similar to her own mother—and seems determined to get closer to Bela in ways that are anything but maternal.

From producer James Wan and Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster, Other Mommy plunges into the increasingly terrifying world of a child whose home may no longer be safe.

Academy Award® winner Jessica Chastain (It Chapter Two, The Eyes of Tammy Faye) takes on dual roles as Bela’s mother and the horrifying manifestation known as Other Mommy.

Jay Duplass (Transparent, Industry) stars as Daddo, Bela’s father, while Arabella Olivia Clark (The Housemaid, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) plays Bela.

The supporting cast also includes Dichen Lachman (Severance), Arian Moayed (Succession), and screen legend Karen Allen (Indiana Jones).

Savage directs from a screenplay by WGA Award winner Nathan Elston, a writer on the Emmy-winning series Succession. The film is based on Incidents Around the House, the New York Times bestselling novel by Josh Malerman, the author of Bird Box.

Watch the official trailer above—and prepare to meet the mother who was never supposed to be there.
