Future Me psychological horror movie from Deadstream directors Joseph and Vanessa Winter

Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the filmmaking duo behind Deadstream and V/H/S/99, are teaming up for Future Me, a new psychological horror thriller based on a viral Reddit horror story. The project marks the next collaboration between Longevity Pictures, genre label Spooky Pictures, and Image Nation Studios, following their partnership on the upcoming video game adaptation Home Safety Hotline.

Written and directed by the Winters, Future Me adapts a chilling short story by Daria Vasileva, originally published on Reddit’s r/NoSleep, a community dedicated to user-submitted horror fiction.

The story centers on a man who receives a disturbing email from his past self through the FutureMe website. What begins as an unsettling message soon sends him spiraling into a terrifying and increasingly surreal mystery.

You can read Vasileva’s original story on Reddit.

Future Me Brings a Viral Reddit Horror Story to the Big Screen

The adaptation continues Hollywood’s interest in turning internet horror into feature films. With its unsettling premise built around a message from the past, Future Me aims to expand a story that has already attracted an online audience into a feature-length psychological nightmare.

The project also reunites the Winters with the kind of genre storytelling that established their reputation among horror fans.

Their feature debut, Deadstream, premiered at SXSW before being acquired by Shudder. The horror-comedy follows a disgraced internet personality who attempts to rebuild his audience by livestreaming an overnight stay in a haunted house.

The duo later contributed the fan-favorite segment “To Hell and Back” to the found-footage anthology V/H/S/99.

They are also attached to Amityville, a new take on the long-running Amityville Horror franchise, alongside producers Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer and Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz.

Who Is Producing Future Me?

Future Me will be produced by Majd Nassif for Longevity Pictures, alongside Steven Schneider and Roy Lee for Spooky Pictures.

Schneider’s producing credits include The Long Walk, Strange Darling, and Late Night with the Devil, while Lee has worked on genre hits such as Weapons, Barbarian, and It.

Ben Ross of Image Nation Studios and Aysel Lyatifova of Longevity Pictures will serve as executive producers. Their credits include projects such as Watcher, MERCY, and Six Till Midnight.

Producers Discuss the New Psychological Horror Film

Majd Nassif, President of Longevity Pictures, said the expanded partnership provides an opportunity to develop original genre projects with commercial potential.

“Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios have built an incredible track record for championing high-concept, creator-driven horror storytelling, so expanding our partnership felt like a natural next step, particularly at a time when there is a proven market appetite and openness for fresh concepts and emerging creative voices,” Nassif explained.

He also pointed to the growing potential of internet-inspired horror, adding that the success of Backrooms had demonstrated the possibilities of adapting online stories and concepts for the screen.

“We’re excited to be bringing Future Me to life with a team which shares our passion for original and punchy genre projects,” Nassif continued. “It’s a story that has already captured the imagination of audiences online, and Joseph and Vanessa are the ideal pair to take it to the big screen.”

Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures and Ben Ross of Image Nation Studios also expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its unsettling premise, established online following, and the Winters’ experience in horror filmmaking.

“Future Me is exactly the kind of project we’re looking to get behind – a chilling premise with a passionate existing fanbase, and with Joseph and Vanessa Winter on board, it has all the makings of a standout horror film,” they said.

When Will Future Me Be Released?
