‘Fallout Shelter: The Experiment’ Reality Competition Series Sets January Premiere

Prime Video has announced the premiere date for Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, a reality competition series inspired by the post-apocalyptic video game franchise Fallout. Nearly 10 months after the project was first announced, the unscripted series will put contestants through a series of challenges inspired by the franchise’s infamous Vault-Tec shelters.

Fallout Shelter: The Experiment premieres January 13, 2027, on Prime Video, with the first four episodes arriving on launch day. The remaining three episodes will be released weekly, with the finale scheduled for January 27.

What Is ‘Fallout Shelter: The Experiment’ About?

The competition invites everyday participants to test their survival skills inside Vault-Tec’s supposedly bomb-proof vaults. Contestants will face high-pressure drills, psychological dilemmas, and morally challenging trials as they compete for power, security, and a life-changing $1 million prize.

As the challenges become increasingly difficult, participants will need to demonstrate ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience to outlast their competitors and emerge as the ultimate Vault Dweller.

‘Fallout’ Creators Return as Executive Producers

Studio Lambert, the production company behind Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge, is producing the series alongside Kilter Films, the company behind the Fallout television adaptation. Amazon MGM Studios and Bethesda Game Studios are also involved.

Fallout creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers, alongside Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who oversees the video game franchise.

‘Fallout’ Season 3 Is Also on the Way

The reality competition will arrive ahead of the next chapter of Prime Video’s scripted Fallout series. Season 3 entered production earlier this summer and is targeting a spring or summer 2027 debut.

Based on Bethesda’s acclaimed video game franchise, the television adaptation takes place two centuries after a nuclear apocalypse, when residents of luxurious underground vaults are forced to venture into the devastated world above. They soon discover a violent, bizarre, and unpredictable wasteland far removed from the relative safety of their former homes.

With Fallout Shelter: The Experiment premiering in January 2027, fans will have another opportunity to explore the franchise’s brutal post-apocalyptic world while waiting for Season 3.
