Ryan Coogler's new The X-Files reboot starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, officially ordered to series at Hulu.

Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files reboot is officially moving forward at Hulu. After years of development and the completion of a pilot episode, the new take on the iconic paranormal investigation series has received a full series order, bringing the franchise one step closer to its return to television.

The upcoming series comes from Onyx Collective and is produced by 20th Television in association with Proximity Media. It will star Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as two highly decorated but very different FBI agents who form an unexpected partnership after being assigned to a long-shuttered division dedicated to investigating unexplained phenomena.

The project reimagines the beloved series originally created by Chris Carter, introducing a new generation of investigators to the world of unexplained cases and paranormal mysteries.

Ryan Coogler Shares His Vision for The X-Files

Coogler, who wrote and directed the pilot, expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the iconic franchise while explaining his approach to the new series.

“I’ve loved The X-Files for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me,” Coogler shared in a statement. He also praised Carter’s original series and emphasized the importance of respecting its legacy while bringing a fresh perspective to the story.

Coogler credited Deadwyler, Patel, and the rest of the cast for bringing their own interpretations to the characters, describing the experience of watching the project take shape as one of its most rewarding aspects.

He also thanked his crew, his colleagues at Proximity Media, and the teams at Onyx Collective and 20th Television for their collaboration and support.

Proximity Media founders Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Ryan Coogler also shared their excitement about continuing the project as executive producers. They highlighted their collaboration with Jennifer Yale, Simone Harris, and the cast and crew as the series enters its next stage.

The team also revealed that fellow Proximity Media co-founder Ludwig Göransson composed the score for the pilot, adding another creative connection to the production.

Will Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Return?

One of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the new The X-Files series is whether original stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will make appearances.

Both actors have previously expressed enthusiasm about Coogler’s vision for the franchise, but neither has officially confirmed involvement in the new series. Whether the reboot will feature connections to the original show’s characters remains unclear.

For now, the project is moving ahead with Deadwyler and Patel leading the new generation of FBI investigators.

When Will the New The X-Files Premiere?

Hulu has officially ordered Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files reboot to series, but a premiere date has not yet been announced. Further details about the show’s release and potential connections to the original series have yet to be revealed.
