‘Resident Evil’ Producer Developing New ‘Silent Hill’ Revival

A new Silent Hill revival is reportedly in development, with Resident Evil producer Roy Lee attached to the project.

Lee’s involvement was revealed in a new profile by the Wall Street Journal, though details remain scarce. It’s currently unclear whether the new Silent Hill project is being developed as a movie or television series, and there’s no word yet on how far along it is.

The news comes as Lee is riding high with Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, which has earned strong reviews while performing well at the box office. Lee produced the horror video game adaptation alongside Cregger.

The Silent Hill franchise has had a troubled history on the big screen. The original 2006 film starred Radha Mitchell and attempted to capture the disturbing imagery and oppressive atmosphere of the games. While it developed a following over the years, it was followed by the poorly received Silent Hill: Revelations in 2012.

Earlier this year, Return to Silent Hill brought the franchise back to theaters, but the film failed to make much of an impact with audiences.

A new adaptation would give Hollywood another chance to properly capture the psychological horror and nightmarish atmosphere that made the video game series so influential.

Lee certainly has plenty of horror experience. Along with producing Cregger’s films, his credits include The Ring, The Grudge, IT and Hokum.

With no other creative talent officially attached at this time, the new Silent Hill project remains largely under wraps. But for fans of the franchise, the possibility of another trip to the foggy streets of Silent Hill is certainly worth watching.
