Konami Plans “Second and Third Waves” of New *Silent Hill* Games
Konami isn’t finished bringing players back to the fog-covered town of Silent Hill. The company is already considering a “second and third wave” of new Silent Hill games, according to series producer Motoi Okamoto, suggesting that the survival horror franchise has a long future ahead.
In a recent interview published in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu issue 1965 and translated by Game Observer, Okamoto reflected on the franchise’s revival and confirmed that Konami is exploring several projects beyond its initial lineup.
Konami Is Planning the Next Wave of Silent Hill Games
Konami’s return to Silent Hill began with the October 2022 Silent Hill Transmission, during which the company announced several projects, including the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Silent Hill f.
With the initial three titles now released, Okamoto expressed relief that the projects had reached players and received positive responses.
“All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved (laughs),” Okamoto said. “They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it.”
However, the producer made it clear that the company isn’t treating these releases as the end of its plans for the franchise.
“Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here,” he explained. “We must think of the second and third waves. We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects.”
Although Okamoto didn’t reveal what these projects might involve, his comments indicate that Konami is actively considering additional Silent Hill entries.
Why Konami Needed More Than the Silent Hill 2 Remake
Okamoto also discussed the challenge of convincing fans that Konami was serious about reviving the franchise. In his view, releasing only a remake of Silent Hill 2 would not have been enough to rebuild confidence in the series.
“From my perspective, just one remake is not enough; as a producer, I cannot let it end only with that,” he explained.
The cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s infamous P.T., a playable teaser for a planned Silent Hill project, remained an important consideration. Okamoto believed that relying on a single release could leave fans questioning whether Konami would once again abandon the franchise.
“If there were only one release, wouldn’t people think that the development is going to be cancelled again, I thought,” he said.
By developing multiple projects, Konami has been able to demonstrate a broader commitment to bringing Silent Hill back to life.
What’s Next for the Silent Hill Franchise?
Beyond the games already released, more Silent Hill projects are in development. Bloober Team is working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, which Konami previously announced.
The franchise is also heading back to the big screen. Another Silent Hill film adaptation is in development, with producer Roy Lee attached. Lee has also been involved in producing Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil film.
Konami has yet to reveal specific details about its planned second and third waves of Silent Hill games, so fans will have to wait for official announcements to learn which projects are on the way.
For now, the producer’s comments offer a promising sign that the return of Silent Hill is intended to be more than a short-lived revival.
