‘Clayface’ Star Tom Rhys Harries Teases the Batman Villain’s Terrifying Final Form

DC Studios is promising some serious body horror with Clayface, and star Tom Rhys Harries says the Batman villain’s ultimate transformation is going to be anything but tame.

Speaking with Empire, Rhys Harries teased what audiences can expect when his character finally becomes the familiar Clayface.

“It’s fucking sick!” the actor said of the transformation.

Set to hit theaters on October 23, Clayface brings full-blown horror to the DC Universe, following a rising Hollywood star whose pursuit of success spirals into a horrifying transformation. The film explores identity, humanity, toxic love, and the dangerous consequences of scientific ambition.

Previous glimpses have already teased the movie’s gruesome practical effects, including disintegrating flesh. But it sounds like the film is saving Clayface’s most horrifying form for later.

Director James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) has also promised that the movie won’t hold back.

“When we were at San Diego Comic-Con, people were like, ‘I hope you don’t go soft.’ And I’m like, ‘Trust me, we don’t go soft,’” Watkins told Empire. “But at the same time, there is that line. It’s a ride. It’s fun. It’s not torture. It’s a rollercoaster.”

Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive).

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously described Clayface as “an incredible body horror film” that explores the origin of one of Batman’s most recognizable villains.

The horror movie also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.
