New Clayface poster for the DC Studios horror movie

DC is getting ready to get seriously nasty.

Clayface is one of the biggest horror releases heading to theaters this Halloween season, and the upcoming DC Studios movie is promising to take the superhero universe into some genuinely disturbing body horror territory.

A new poster has arrived ahead of the film’s theatrical release. Check it out below.

Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, the man who will ultimately become one of Gotham’s most infamous villains.

But this isn’t exactly your typical comic book origin story.

Described as DC Studios’ first horror movie, Clayface follows Matt as he goes from a struggling kid from Gotham to a successful Hollywood actor before a brutal encounter leaves him horribly disfigured.

With his career and life falling apart, Matt turns to an experimental treatment that appears to restore his former appearance. Unfortunately, there’s a much darker side to the procedure.

The treatment begins to affect his mind and body, sending Matt down a horrifying path fueled by obsession, revenge, and a desperate desire to hold onto his identity.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”

The movie is being directed by James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive).

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has previously described the movie as “an incredible body horror film” that explores the origin of the classic Batman villain.

And based on that description, don’t expect Clayface to play it safe.

The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.

Clayface hits theaters on October 23, 2026.
