‘Alien’ Movie in the Works From Ridley Scott and ‘Raised by Wolves’ Creator
A new Alien movie is in development at 20th Century Studios, with franchise filmmaker Ridley Scott producing and Raised by Wolves creator Aaron Guzikowski hired to write the screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the project reportedly will not be a sequel to Alien: Romulus. Instead, the new film is said to be connected to Scott’s earlier entries in the franchise, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
Will the New ‘Alien’ Movie Continue David’s Story?
Scott is currently attached to the project as a producer, with no director announced. Whether he will eventually take the helm remains unclear.
The reported connection to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant raises the possibility that the new movie could continue the story of David, the synthetic played by Michael Fassbender. Scott has repeatedly expressed interest in completing the trilogy that began with Prometheus and continued with Alien: Covenant.
Earlier this year, Scott also discussed progress on a potential Alien: Covenant follow-up, offering new details about David’s story after the events of the 2017 film. However, Fassbender is not currently attached to the new project, and it remains unclear whether the actor will return.
Alien: Covenant ended with David secretly replacing fellow android Walter, also played by Fassbender, aboard the colony ship Covenant. David then revealed that he had smuggled facehuggers onto the ship while colonist Daniels, played by Katherine Waterston, prepared to enter hypersleep.
‘Raised by Wolves’ Creator Aaron Guzikowski Takes on ‘Alien’
Guzikowski’s involvement brings a science-fiction writer with experience exploring androids, humanity, and unsettling extraterrestrial mysteries into the Alien universe.
He created Raised by Wolves, the Ridley Scott-produced series about two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet. Their mission becomes increasingly dangerous as they encounter a human colony divided by religious beliefs.
Guzikowski also wrote the acclaimed thriller Prisoners and is attached to the upcoming animated feature based on the video game Death Stranding.
‘Alien: Romulus’ Sequel Also in Development
The new project is separate from the planned sequel to Alien: Romulus, the 2024 film directed by Fede Álvarez. Scott is also producing that follow-up, although Álvarez has said he will not direct it.
With multiple projects in development, the Alien franchise could continue along different paths: one potentially revisiting the mythology established in Scott’s prequels, and another building on the story introduced in Alien: Romulus.
Further details about the new film, including its title, director, cast, and release date, have not yet been announced.
