A late-night attempt at digital distraction takes a horrifying turn in the trailer for Human, an upcoming supernatural horror movie that promises blood, heartbreak, and some seriously stomach-churning practical effects.

Dark Sky Films will release Human in select theaters and on Digital on October 23.

The official synopsis reads:

“It’s past midnight, and Dani Ferris is all alone. Away from home. Tired as hell. Not prepared for the roller coaster of emotions she’s about to ride front-row. Sleep? Lol. Nope. Tonight is a night for friends, lovers, enemies, frenemies, little guns, bigger guns, love, hate, life, death, and things a hell of a lot more super than natural. A night Dani will never forget. And neither will he.”

Written and directed by Matt Stuertz, who also serves as a producer, Human wastes little time turning its seemingly ordinary setup into a supernatural nightmare.

While the trailer keeps much of the film’s nastier material under wraps, audiences at Fright Fest and Obscura Film Fest reportedly got a much more brutal look at what Stuertz has in store. The filmmaker previously directed Tonight She Comes, a particularly gruesome horror outing known for its unapologetically graphic practical effects.

Early reactions to Human have similarly singled out its stomach-churning practical effects, suggesting the movie could be another memorable entry in Stuertz’s brand of extreme horror.

The cast includes Jackie Kelly (Hag, In Memory Of, Oscar Tango Hellwater), Brock Russell (Tonight She Comes, Revisions), Cecily Dowd (Black Card Teaser, Miss Valentine), Jeffrey Decker (Relentless, Mischief Beyond Mischief), and Mia Sydney (Ink of Ages, Mendocino).

David Neiss (Flush) wrote the screenplay.

Born in December, the darkest and coldest month of the year, Francesco Monti developed a passion for all things horror from an early age. A lifelong horror aficionado, his love for films, books, and the darker side of storytelling eventually led him into filmmaking, with a focus on horror, thriller, and sci-fi. In May 2022, Francesco turned that lifelong passion into GoreCulture — a platform created not only to bring horror fans closer to the films, stories, and culture they love, but to give a voice and valuable exposure to talented filmmakers, creators, and artists whose work deserves to be discovered, regardless of how established they are.
