A feature film adaptation of Garth Ennis’ notoriously extreme Crossed comic book series is officially on the way, and the first teaser trailer offers a disturbing glimpse at what director Rob Jabbaz (The Sadness) has in store.
The NSFW, age-restricted teaser previews the upcoming extreme horror film, which brings Ennis’ brutal comic to the screen with Jabbaz behind the camera.
Ennis, who also created The Boys and Preacher, wrote the screenplay based on the original 10-issue Crossed comic series, illustrated by Jacen Burrows.
The story follows Stan (Devin Druid) and Cindy (Ash Santos), who lead a group of survivors attempting to escape north after a mysterious infection spreads across the country.
Those infected, known as the Crossed, develop a distinctive cross-shaped mark on their foreheads and lose all restraint while retaining their intelligence. Unlike traditional zombies, the Crossed can think, communicate, and plan—but are driven entirely by their most violent and disturbing impulses.
Druid (13 Reasons Why) and Santos (American Horror Story) lead the ensemble cast, which also includes Ethan Jones Romero as Thomas, Kyla Hee as Kelly, Chido Nwokocha as Kitrick, Spenser Granese as Brett, Bob Morley as Randall, Ana Mulvoy Ten as Sheena, Steven Hack as Geoff, and newcomer Lorenzo Ross as Patrick.
The Crossed are led by Owen Harn (Cobra Kai) as the particularly vicious Horsecock. Fedor Steer (Haunted Mansion) plays Face, while Kelvin Adekunle (City of Love) portrays Stump. Angie Campbell and Peter Falls round out the cast as Amy and Joel.
Fans familiar with Ennis and Burrows’ Crossed comic know the material has earned a reputation for pushing extreme horror to its limits. The film also reunites Jabbaz with Ennis’ work in spirit, as the director previously drew inspiration from Crossed while making his 2021 feature debut, The Sadness.
That film became notorious for its relentlessly violent approach to outbreak horror, making Jabbaz a particularly fitting choice to bring Crossed to the screen.
The new teaser provides only a brief taste of what’s coming, but it’s clear that this adaptation isn’t looking to soften the source material.
More details on Crossed, including a release date, are expected as the film moves forward.
