Something is lurking deep in the woods—and it’s calling out. The new trailer for the found-footage horror movie Creature of the Pines sends a documentary crew into the New Jersey Pine Barrens, where a routine investigation quickly turns into a fight for survival.

The Screambox exclusive begins streaming on October 13.

Creature of the Pines follows a skeptical documentary team as they venture into the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens to investigate a series of unexplained disappearances. Armed with interviews, field research, and an interest in the region’s strange folklore, the crew sets out to determine what is really happening in the wilderness.

But the deeper they travel into the Pines, the harder it becomes to separate legend from reality.

Soon, the documentary crew realizes they may not be investigating something at all—they may have become its next targets.

Chris Ruppert and Tyler Transue wrote and directed the film, which stars Greg Poppa, Eric Melaragni, Austin Green, and Kelly Warren.

The movie previously premiered at Panic Fest earlier this year before heading to Screambox.

Something Is Watching

The trailer immediately evokes comparisons to The Blair Witch Project, particularly with its isolated woodland setting and documentary crew slowly realizing they’ve ventured somewhere they shouldn’t have.

But Creature of the Pines appears to have a different nightmare waiting in the darkness.

The Pine Barrens have long been surrounded by strange legends and stories of mysterious creatures, including the infamous Jersey Devil and the White Stag. The protected New Jersey ecosystem provides the perfect backdrop for a found-footage horror story where getting lost in the woods could be the least of your problems.

Whatever is hiding among the trees, the trailer suggests the crew is about to discover that some legends are better left alone.
