Curry Barker’s ‘Anything But Ghosts’ Sets 2027 Release Date

After making his theatrical debut with the horror hit Obsession, writer/director Curry Barker is taking things in a more comedic direction with his next feature, the horror comedy Anything But Ghosts.

Anything But Ghosts is officially set to haunt theaters on May 7, 2027.

Barker directs the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with his longtime creative partner Cooper Tomlinson (Milk & Serial). The two filmmakers also star in the movie, playing a pair of wannabe ghost hunters who make a living running a fraudulent paranormal investigation business.

There’s just one problem: the ghosts they claim to hunt are actually real.

That setup gives Barker and Tomlinson plenty of room to blend horror and comedy, while still maintaining the grounded approach that has become part of Barker’s filmmaking style.

“It’s all going to feel like the same brand,” Barker previously told Bloody Disgusting. “It’s slightly different. It’s so different than Obsession, because the idea itself just lends itself better to comedy, because it’s literally about two ghost hunter con artists.”

Barker has also explained that while Anything But Ghosts leans much further into comedy than Obsession, the supernatural elements are still being treated seriously within the world of the film.

“It’s Cooper and me doing our thing, so it lends itself better to comedy, but it’s still set in this super grounded world,” Barker said. “It’s ghosts being real in a world where ghosts are not real. Just like [Obsession] is a wish going wrong in a movie where magic doesn’t exist or in a world where magic doesn’t exist, right? That’s kind of what I try to do.”

Joining Barker and Tomlinson in the cast are Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Chris Reinacher (Superstore), and Violet McGraw (M3GAN).

Behind the scenes, Blumhouse founder Jason Blum is producing alongside Roy Lee and Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures (Hokum), as well as Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer (M3GAN).

Executive producers include Barker and Tomlinson for That’s a Bad Idea, along with Ben Ross for Image Nation (Late Night with the Devil).

And for fans of Obsession, Anything But Ghosts will offer an additional connection between the two films. The upcoming horror comedy is set within the same universe as Obsession and will make a direct reference to what happens to Nikki.

With Barker once again behind the camera and a cast that includes Paul, Howard, Reinacher, and McGraw, Anything But Ghosts is shaping up to bring a very different kind of supernatural nightmare to theaters in 2027.
