‘Obsession’ Arrives on Netflix in November

Obsession horror movie starring Inde Navarrette, arriving on Netflix November 17

Curry Barker’s horror hit Obsession is coming to Netflix on November 17, giving the film another opportunity to reach a wider audience after its theatrical success. The movie has already been available on home video and streaming through Peacock, but its arrival on Netflix could introduce its unsettling story to an entirely new group of viewers.

Whether you missed the film during its theatrical run or want to experience its disturbing twists again, the Netflix release offers another chance to discover one of the year’s most talked-about horror movies.

When Is Obsession Coming to Netflix?

Obsession will begin streaming on Netflix on November 17. The film has been available through multiple home-video formats and on Peacock, and it also returned to theaters for the Halloween season.

Netflix’s larger audience could give the horror movie another boost in popularity, particularly among viewers who have yet to see what made it such a major talking point.

The film’s arrival also comes amid growing interest in its breakout star, Inde Navarrette, who is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live on October 31, with Gracie Abrams serving as the musical guest.

Navarrette’s appearance will give audiences an opportunity to see her in a very different setting. Although Saturday Night Live has aired Halloween episodes in the past, the show’s mix of comedy and celebrity appearances could offer an interesting change of pace for fans familiar with her work in Obsession.

Netflix Previously Considered Releasing Obsession

Interestingly, Netflix’s connection to Obsession goes back further than its upcoming streaming debut.

According to comments Barker reportedly made last month, Netflix had expressed interest in the film before Focus Features acquired it, potentially considering a release as a Netflix original.

A streaming-first release could have introduced the movie to audiences worldwide simultaneously. However, its eventual theatrical release helped establish it as a box office success, demonstrating the appeal of its disturbing premise on the big screen.

Now, with the film heading to Netflix, Obsession has another opportunity to expand its audience beyond those who watched it in theaters or through its earlier home-viewing options.

Could Obsession 2 Happen? Inde Navarrette Is Interested

Following the film’s success, speculation has naturally turned toward the possibility of a sequel.

Navarrette has already expressed interest in returning for another installment, although she also suggested that her character, Nikki, would have a difficult road ahead following the events of the first movie.

“I would totally be open to doing a sequel. Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no?” Navarrette told The Hollywood Reporter.

However, the actress acknowledged that Nikki’s story would need to address the emotional consequences of what she experienced.

“And what is she doing afterwards? I think the non-pretty answer, which I think is more important to give sometimes than kind of just giggling through answers, is she’s starting a grief process.”

She continued by explaining the difficulty of processing traumatic experiences and losing a sense of control over one’s life.

“She’s just starting the grief process.”

While Navarrette’s comments suggest that she would welcome a return, a sequel has not been confirmed. Any continuation would also need to account for the first film’s ending and the consequences faced by its characters.

What’s Next for the Obsession Cast and Director?

The success of Obsession has coincided with several major opportunities for the people involved.

Navarrette has signed on to portray Rogue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men projects, while co-star Michael Johnston is working on The Mummy: Book of the Dead.

Meanwhile, Barker is developing his next movie, Anything But Ghosts, and is attached to a new take on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

With its Netflix debut approaching and its cast and director moving on to new projects, Obsession continues to generate interest well beyond its original theatrical release.

Obsession arrives on Netflix on November 17.
