Curry Barker's Mama Bear, a new horror short created in partnership with Windows and premiering on YouTube October 29, 2026.

Following the success of Obsession, filmmaker Curry Barker is returning to his horror-short roots with Mama Bear, a new short film created in partnership with Windows. Written, directed, and edited by Barker, the project is set to premiere on YouTube on October 29, 2026.

The announcement marks another collaboration between Barker and the short-form horror format that helped establish his reputation online. While the story behind Mama Bear remains under wraps, the filmmaker has revealed the cast and creative team ahead of this week’s premiere.

What Is Curry Barker’s Mama Bear About?

Details about Mama Bear are being kept secret until its premiere, leaving the short’s central premise a mystery for now.

Barker wrote, directed, and edited the project, with the cast featuring Jon Lee Richardson as Floyd, Katie Sarife as Lacey, Ericka Kreuz as Ms. Wilson, and Joshua Snyder as Floyd’s doppelgänger.

The short also reunites Barker with Vivian Gray, the production designer behind Obsession. With the premise still under wraps, audiences will have to wait until the film’s debut to discover what Barker has planned.

Watch Mama Bear on YouTube October 29

Mama Bear will premiere on YouTube on October 29. Horror fans can watch the official countdown and access the premiere through the YouTube premiere page.

The short arrives after Barker’s growing success as a filmmaker, with his work moving from viral online horror to larger feature-film projects.

From Viral Horror Shorts to Obsession

Before Obsession brought Barker wider attention, he built an audience with short horror films designed to unsettle viewers online. His viral short The Chair helped demonstrate his ability to create memorable horror with a compact format, while Milk & Serial further expanded his following after its release through the YouTube comedy channel That’s a Bad Idea.

Now, with Mama Bear, Barker is returning to the short-film format that helped pave the way for his feature-film breakthrough.

What’s Next for Curry Barker?

Barker has several other horror projects in development. These include the original horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts, a new installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, and an untitled horror film for Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Universal.

For now, Mama Bear offers fans a chance to see what Barker has been working on in the short-film space. With its story still a mystery, the October 29 premiere should reveal whether the filmmaker has another unsettling surprise in store.
