‘Alphas’ – Great White Sharks and Killer Whales Clash in New Monster Movie

The long-awaited Alphas is finally coming to theaters. Originally announced back in 2020, the sharks-vs.-killer-whales monster movie has resurfaced six years later, with Saban Films acquiring the film for U.S. distribution.

Alphas is now set to hit U.S. theaters in early 2027.

The creature feature stars Martin Henderson (Virgin River), Teagan Croft (Titans), and Charlotte Vega (Wrong Turn).

The story kicks off when a series of deadly great white shark attacks terrorizes a quiet surfing town. In an effort to drive the sharks away, killer whales are brought in — but the plan quickly goes sideways when an unusually powerful alpha great white proves nearly impossible to stop.

With the town under threat, a former local surfing legend played by Henderson and a retired orca trainer played by Vega are forced to make one last desperate move: release the most dangerous killer whale ever known.

Alphas is directed by Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline, Portals, Skylines) from a screenplay by Frank Hannah (The Cooler), based on a story by Hannah and Christopher Tuffin.

Saban Films co-presidents Shanan Becker and Jonathan Saban say the movie puts a new spin on the creature-feature formula by giving the shark itself something to fear.

“Jaws made it real, because the scariest monster isn’t the one we dream up, it’s the shark already swimming beneath us,” the pair said. “Alphas finally gives that shark something to be scared of, too.”

Producer Christopher Tuffin adds that the movie was designed to turn the traditional shark movie formula upside down.

“When the only thing that can save the beach may be more dangerous than sharks, every choice becomes terrifying,” Tuffin said.

Alphas will hit U.S. theaters in early 2027.
