Prime Video’s ‘Stillwater’ Series Casts ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Star in Lead Role

Prime Video’s upcoming series adaptation of Skybound Comics’ Stillwater has found its leading man, with The Conjuring: Last Rites breakout Ben Hardy set to star.

The horror-drama series was greenlit in July and is being developed by Greg Berlanti (You, The Flight Attendant) and Carly Wray (Watchmen, Westworld) for Amazon MGM Studios. The series is based on the comic book created by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K. Pérez.

Hardy will play Daniel West, an ex-con who receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past, along with a substantial inheritance if he travels to the small town of Stillwater. Once there, Daniel discovers something deeply unsettling: nobody in the community ages, no one ever dies, and apparently, nobody can leave.

Prime Video describes the series as a “mind-bending horror thriller” that blends mystery, psychological suspense, and supernatural horror.

Wray and Berlanti co-wrote the pilot and will executive produce the series.

“We’ve been fans of Ben’s for a long time, and we’re thrilled to get to tell this story together,” Berlanti and Wray said. “There’s a toughness to him, but also something incredibly open and soulful underneath it. Daniel needs both.”

Hardy most recently appeared as Tony Spera in The Conjuring: Last Rites, playing the character who hopes to marry Judy Warren, the daughter of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. His other credits include Mary Shelley and X-Men: Apocalypse.

“Stillwater is a truly original series that blends horror, mystery, and psychological suspense into something entirely unexpected,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Greg Berlanti, Carly Wray, and the incredible teams at WBTV and Skybound have created a world unlike anything audiences have seen before.”

The Stillwater comic debuted in September 2020 and concluded in January 2023.

Prime Video has ordered eight episodes of the series, which comes from Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Skybound Entertainment.
