‘Werwulf’ Unleashes a Primal Nightmare in New Trailer

The full moon is rising, and with it comes a fresh look at one of the most anticipated horror movies of the year.

Focus Features has released the official trailer for Robert Eggers’ (The Witch, The Lighthouse, Nosferatu) upcoming werewolf nightmare Werwulf, offering a chilling glimpse at the director’s most brutal and unsettling film yet.

Eggers has previously described Werwulf as the darkest movie he has written, and the new trailer certainly suggests that audiences are in for something far more savage than a traditional werewolf story.

Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf plunges into a world where superstition, folklore, and violence collide as a mysterious creature begins stalking the countryside. What may have once been dismissed as local legend soon becomes a terrifying reality.

The new trailer gives us another look at Eggers’ medieval horror world while keeping plenty of the film’s darker secrets hidden.

The official synopsis teases:

The film is described as a story of devotion, damnation, and the darkness lurking within, promising a werewolf movie steeped in the grim atmosphere and historical detail that has become a trademark of Eggers’ filmmaking.

The cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet).

Werwulf arrives exclusively in theaters on December 25, 2026, from Focus Features.
