Terror Films is bringing The Devil You Become, a psychological thriller written and directed by Anthony Bushman, to streaming platforms across North America on November 6, 2026. Set in a world devastated by a deadly supervirus, the film explores isolation, fractured mental health, and the search for purpose after a global catastrophe.
Bushman stars alongside Ashton Solecki and Jessica Lynn Parsons, with Brian K. Millard co-writing and appearing in the film. The story follows an isolated man struggling to understand his newfound purpose while confronting his own fractured psyche in the aftermath of a supervirus that has killed billions.
The Story Behind The Devil You Become
The road to completing The Devil You Become was shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic and a devastating personal loss. In a statement about the film’s production, Bushman explained that he and Millard had been preparing to shoot their first feature film in March 2020. However, just 36 hours before production was scheduled to begin, the project was postponed indefinitely because of the pandemic.
The two longtime friends and writing partners were also roommates. As the lockdowns continued, they decided to develop a new film they could produce independently while remaining in isolation. Drawing inspiration from the world around them, they built a story exploring fear, trust in science, and the psychological effects of isolation.
With limited resources and a small production setup, Bushman and Millard took on the bulk of the filmmaking responsibilities themselves. They also played two of the lead characters, while actor friends filled the remaining major roles through remote filming.
Although the production presented significant challenges, Bushman described the experience as rewarding. However, the project took a heartbreaking turn during editing when Millard died unexpectedly.
Bushman stepped away from the film for several months before returning to complete the work they had started together. Reflecting on the experience, he shared:
“And while I still face the inevitable moments of grief, especially the heartbreaking realization that Brian will never get to see the finished product, I take solace knowing that he’d be proud of the work we did together.”
