Chase Infiniti stars in Lionsgate's Portrait of God horror movie

Lionsgate is bringing the viral horror short Portrait of God to the big screen, with Chase Infiniti set to star in the feature adaptation. The project will also mark the first producing collaboration between horror icons Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele.

Directed by Dylan Clark, who created the original short, Portrait of God is a religious horror story based on the filmmaker’s viral YouTube sensation. Clark wrote the feature screenplay with Joe Russo (The Inheritance), with the movie expanding the world established in the original short.

Released on YouTube three years ago, the short has gone on to rack up more than 8.6 million views.

The original Portrait of God revolves around a mysterious painting that appears completely blank to some viewers, while others claim to see the face of God hidden within its darkness. But when a woman looks deeply into the blackness herself, she discovers that she may not be the only one staring.

Infiniti, who recently broke out with One Battle After Another and Hulu’s The Testaments, will lead the feature adaptation. Clark is also set to direct the upcoming 2027 reboot of The Blair Witch Project for Lionsgate.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson praised Clark’s distinctive voice and the talent assembled for the project.

“We’re delighted to deepen our creative partnership with Dylan Clark, whose remarkable talent and distinctive perspective make him one of the most exciting emerging voices in horror,” Fogelson said. “With Sam and Jordan, two of the genre’s most influential producers, the extraordinary Chase Infiniti starring, and Dylan at the helm, this is an exceptional creative team. We believe they have all the ingredients for a film that is haunting, thought-provoking, and scary as hell.”

Clark also expressed his excitement about continuing his relationship with Lionsgate while welcoming Infiniti to the project.

“With Blair Witch, I’m experiencing firsthand the trust Lionsgate places in its filmmakers, and I couldn’t be happier that Portrait of God has found a home there as well,” Clark said. “I’m also thrilled to welcome Chase Infiniti to our team. She blew me away in One Battle After Another and is one of the most exciting young actors working today.”

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce through their Ghost House banner, while Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld will produce through Monkeypaw Productions. Russo will also produce in addition to co-writing the screenplay with Clark.

Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee the project for Ghost House. For Monkeypaw, Chris Rosati will executive produce through his first-look deal with his NAT20 Films banner.

With its viral origins, religious horror premise, and a creative team that includes Raimi, Peele, Clark, and Infiniti, Portrait of God is shaping up to be a major feature expansion of one of the internet’s most recognizable recent horror shorts.
