‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ Movie Adaptation Officially Announced

The Lollipop Chainsaw franchise is getting a bloody new expansion.

Following the recent announcement of Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, a live-action movie adaptation of the cult video game has now been announced. Even better, the upcoming film will be an R-rated action-horror comedy prequel to the original game.

The movie was announced during this year’s Tokyo Game Show and is being developed by an international team of producers and production executives, including Joe Teng of Nada Holdings, Robert Franke of Orange Chariot, Takafumi Yuki of Throne Inc, Kirk Shaw of Ambitious Entertainment, and Patricio Rabuffetti of Non Stop TV.

Shohei Sato, President of Dragami Games, says the team is excited to bring the franchise to the big screen for its first live-action feature.

“We are truly excited to see our vision take another important step with the franchise’s first live-action feature film,” Sato said. He also praised the international production team for understanding the identity of the franchise while finding room to introduce something new.

According to Franke, the movie will remain faithful to the attitude and over-the-top energy that made Lollipop Chainsaw a cult favorite while functioning as a standalone story.

The goal is to deliver an action-horror comedy that longtime fans will recognize while also giving newcomers an accessible entry point into the bizarre world of Lollipop Chainsaw.

The original game follows Juliet Starling, a zombie-slaying cheerleader who uses a chainsaw to hack her way through hordes of the undead. Originally released in 2012, the game became known for its outrageous violence, colorful visuals, dark humor, and deliberately over-the-top premise.

The live-action movie will expand that world with a story set before the events of the game.

Meanwhile, the video game franchise is also making a comeback. Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back is currently in development and is expected to arrive in 2027, with the PlayStation 5 confirmed as a platform and additional platforms expected to follow.

Between a new game and an R-rated live-action movie, Juliet Starling’s zombie-killing adventures are officially getting a much bigger second life.
