A buried VHS tape becomes a terrifying gateway to the supernatural in the new teaser and poster for Death of a Yellow Bird, which is set to premiere this week at Fantastic Fest.

Written and directed by Cody Calahan (Vicious Fun, The Oak Room), the atmospheric horror film follows a terminally ill man who returns to his childhood home after refusing treatment, hoping to find some sense of closure.

Instead, he discovers his family’s long-lost VHS camera buried in the ground.

Inside is a collection of old home movies, but something disturbing begins to emerge from the static. Before long, a mysterious disembodied voice can be heard.

Initially believing the strange occurrences could be caused by his medication, he soon realizes that something else is lurking inside the isolated house. As the hauntings grow more intense and his time begins to run out, he must uncover a dark secret from his family’s past before it consumes him.

Ari Millen (Undertone, The Ice Cream Man) stars.

Calahan and Millen also produce alongside Chad Archibald and Jeff Maher.

Fantastic Fest describes the film as an unsettling exploration of personal healing and sacrifice, with a sound design crafted for the theatrical experience.
