Jude Law Joins Scarlett Johansson in Ari Aster’s New Horror Movie ‘Scapegoat’

Ari Aster is assembling the cast for his next mysterious project.

The Hereditary and Midsommar writer-director is gearing up to make Scapegoat, and according to Deadline, Jude Law (The Third Day, The Talented Mr. Ripley) is in negotiations to join the movie opposite previously announced star Scarlett Johansson.

As expected from an Ari Aster project, just about everything else is being kept under wraps.

Scapegoat is currently described only as a thriller and will be released by A24. Plot details remain secret, although Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein) has also recently joined the cast.

Rumors surrounding the project have suggested several wildly different possibilities, including a story about a doctor who operates on an internet-famous person, a sci-fi romance, and a drama.

Whatever the movie turns out to be, Aster has already proven that his films rarely follow a straightforward path.

Production on Scapegoat is expected to begin soon, with the schedule being arranged around Johansson’s other commitments. The actress recently wrapped Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist and is also set to appear in The Batman: Part II.

Aster became one of modern horror’s most recognizable filmmakers with 2018’s Hereditary and 2019’s Midsommar. He followed those films with the surreal psychological comedy Beau Is Afraid in 2023 and Eddington, which premiered at Cannes.

With Johansson, Law, and Elordi potentially sharing the screen, Scapegoat is quickly becoming one of Aster’s most intriguing upcoming projects.
