Filming has wrapped on The Block, a new supernatural thriller starring Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), and Jack Falahee (How to Get Away with Murder). Directed by Emmy nominee Craig Singer (6:45), the film explores the dark side of artistic ambition, following a struggling horror writer whose return to inspiration comes with a terrifying price.
The first look at The Block was revealed by Deadline, offering an early glimpse at the supernatural thriller.
What Is The Block About?
The film follows Mitch James, played by Jack Falahee, a once-celebrated horror writer whose promising career collapses after he develops a debilitating case of writer’s block.
Years later, with his reputation in ruins, Mitch experiences a dark and inexplicable event that suddenly brings his creativity back to life. The words begin flowing again, but his newfound inspiration doesn’t last without consequences.
As a shadowy and malevolent force appears to demand something in return, Mitch finds himself caught in a disturbing cycle of creation and punishment. The more he struggles to reclaim his place as a writer, the more he must confront the possibility that his artistic comeback will cost him far more than he ever imagined.

Director Craig Singer Explains the Ideas Behind The Block
Singer revealed that The Block has been a long time in the making, with its central idea exploring the sacrifices artists may make to protect their work and secure their legacy.
“I’ve been developing The Block for many years,” Singer said in a statement shared by Deadline. “The original idea – what an artist is compelled to go through to secure their art and legacy – has always intrigued me and feels even more urgent in 2026.”
The filmmaker also connected the story to the rapid changes affecting creative industries, particularly the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
“Today’s rapidly evolving, AI-driven creative landscape forces creators at every level to make artistic choices and face challenges on a scale we’ve never seen,” Singer explained. “The timing couldn’t be more relevant. The Block isn’t about jump scares; it’s a philosophic fable for our times.”
With its supernatural premise and focus on the price of creative ambition, The Block looks to explore horror beyond traditional scares, examining what happens when the pursuit of artistic greatness becomes something far more sinister.
Further details about the film’s release date and distribution have not yet been announced.
