Ron Perlman’s Horror Movie ‘Renew’ Wraps Production

Genre icon Ron Perlman has officially wrapped filming on Renew, an upcoming horror movie that reunites the actor with his former Sons of Anarchy co-star Theo Rossi.

Directed by Tommy DeNucci, Renew is described as a suspense-driven horror film that begins as an intimate relationship drama before descending into visceral terror. The cast also includes Rachelle Goulding (Suits LA), along with Ronnie Gene Blevins, Allison Dunbar, Sam Daly, Danny Rivera, Rebecca Creskoff, Darko Ostojic, Bonnie Gayle Sparks, Barron Boedecker, and Chris Wilks.

What Is Renew About?

Renew follows a married couple who return to a secluded Montana guest ranch where they originally exchanged their vows. Hoping to leave their troubled past behind and start over, Randy and Liz expect the trip to be a chance to reconnect.

Instead, everything falls apart when Liz mysteriously disappears.

Randy is forced to confront the life he once tried to escape as he begins uncovering a hidden evil beneath the seemingly peaceful ranch.

The film is written by Tommy DeNucci and Theo Rossi, with DeNucci directing.

Rossi said the story appealed to him because it centers on two people with a shared history who are desperately trying to find their way back to each other.

“When that hope comes under threat, you find out how far someone will go for the person they love.”

According to Rossi, the filmmakers wanted audiences to become emotionally invested in Randy and Liz before the horror takes over, making the danger feel more personal.

DeNucci similarly emphasized the importance of establishing the couple’s relationship before turning their Montana getaway into a nightmare.

“The more authentic their relationship feels, the more terrifying it becomes when everything begins to unravel.”

Ron Perlman and Theo Rossi Reunite

Renew marks another collaboration between Ron Perlman and Theo Rossi, who previously worked together on Sons of Anarchy.

Perlman is no stranger to horror and genre filmmaking. His extensive genre résumé includes Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Blade II, Cronos, Pacific Rim, Nightmare Alley, Alien: Resurrection, and The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Rossi, meanwhile, is best known to horror fans for projects including Creepshow and Army of the Dead, in addition to his role as Juan Carlos “Juice” Ortiz on Sons of Anarchy.

Another Sons of Anarchy Reunion Is Coming

Renew isn’t the only upcoming project bringing Perlman and Rossi back together.

The two actors will also appear in Legends, alongside several other Sons of Anarchy stars, including Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, and Kim Coates.

In Legends, the actors play fictionalized versions of themselves who reunite at a convention before becoming caught up in a mysterious threat.

Neither Renew nor Legends currently has an announced release date.

For now, Renew has completed filming, with more details about the horror movie expected as it moves toward release.
