Wyatt Russell in the upcoming Monsterverse spinoff series, joined by guest stars Tim Robbins and Giancarlo Esposito.

The upcoming Monsterverse television spinoff starring Wyatt Russell has added two major names to its growing cast. According to Variety, Tim Robbins (Jacob’s Ladder, Castle Rock) and Giancarlo Esposito (Abigail) have joined the untitled series in guest-starring roles.

Character details remain under wraps, but the two actors join previously announced cast members Pilou Asbæk (Salem’s Lot), Millie Brady (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Corey Stoll (Imperfect Women, Billions), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Fantastic Four: First Steps), and Nyasha Hatendi (Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials, Casual).

What Is Wyatt Russell’s Monsterverse Series About?

The series will follow Colonel Lee Shaw, played by Russell, during a secret mission in 1984. An American operative working behind enemy lines, Shaw is tasked with stopping the Soviets from unleashing a terrifying new Titan powerful enough to destroy the United States and turn the tide of the Cold War.

Joby Harold, who served as showrunner on Obi-Wan Kenobi and executive producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, will take on showrunner duties for the untitled spinoff.

Russell previously teased the series during an interview with Collider, promising an unexpected direction for the story.

“You’ve got absolutely no fucking clue what to expect,” Russell said. “I think people are going to expect one thing and be like, ‘Holy shit, this is not what I expected.’ It’ll go deeper into Lee’s experience after he came up, and being sort of put on ice, in 1982, and then what happens after that, and why he’s needed and the mission he goes on.”

Producers include Kei Banno, Brian Rogers, and Kenji Okuhira. Russell and Harold will executive produce alongside Tory Tunnell, Chris Black, Kyle Bradstreet, Alex Boden, Max Borenstein, Andy Goddard, Hiro Matsuoka, and Takemasa Arita.

Meanwhile, the franchise’s parent series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, is also expected to continue with a planned third season. That season is reportedly moving forward with major creative changes, including a new showrunner and writing team.

The untitled Monsterverse spinoff does not yet have a release date.
