Joachim Rønning directing System horror movie

Tron: Ares and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning is heading into horror with a mysterious new feature titled System.

According to Deadline, production is already underway in London, though details surrounding the cast and story are being kept firmly under wraps.

Rønning is directing System from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Andreas Rønning. The filmmaker is also producing the project.

Spooky Pictures producers Roy Lee (Weapons, It) and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) are also on board as producers. Image Nation Studios CEO Ben Ross (Watcher, Company) and Spooky Pictures’ Rami Yasin (Hokum) are executive producing.

Spooky Pictures has become increasingly active in the horror space in recent months, with projects including 4 x 4: The Event, Sundowning, Occupant, and V/H/S: SCP.

The company previously partnered with Image Nation Studios on several genre projects, including Late Night with the Devil, Charlie Polinger’s The Plague, and Hokum, which stars Adam Scott.

For now, virtually everything about System remains a mystery. It will also be interesting to see whether the film represents a more contained approach for Rønning, whose recent work has largely consisted of large-scale franchise movies packed with spectacle.

Stay tuned to GoreCulture for more details on System as they emerge.
