Charli xcx to Cameo in Martin Scorsese’s Gothic Horror Movie ‘What Happens at Night’

Charli xcx is joining Martin Scorsese’s upcoming gothic horror film What Happens at Night in a cameo role. According to Variety, the pop star will appear in the film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

Described as a gothic psychological horror movie, What Happens at Night follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snow-covered European town to adopt a baby. They check into a largely deserted hotel and encounter a strange assortment of characters, including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman, and a charismatic faith healer.

As the couple struggles to secure their adoption, the boundaries between reality and illusion begin to blur. The deeper they get into the experience, the less they seem to understand about themselves and the life they have built together.

Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night Cast

Scorsese is directing What Happens at Night from a screenplay by Patrick Marber, whose credits include Closer and Notes on a Scandal. The film is based on Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel of the same name.

DiCaprio and Lawrence will play the central couple, while Charli xcx’s character remains undisclosed. The supporting cast also includes Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Dust Bunny), Jared Harris (Chernobyl), and Welker White (Goodfellas).

The project marks another collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, who have previously worked together on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon. What Happens at Night will be their seventh feature film together.

Charli xcx Continues Her Move Into Horror

Charli xcx has been expanding her film career while embracing her longtime interest in horror. She recently appeared in the Faces of Death reboot and is also attached to an upcoming horror film from Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike.

The singer has additionally teased a musical collaboration with legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg, known for his influential contributions to body horror.
