‘Below’ Trailer Unleashes a Sea Creature on Josh Hartnett in Netflix Horror Series**

Netflix is diving into deep-sea horror this October with Below, a new six-episode limited series starring Josh Hartnett as a fisherman forced to face a mysterious creature terrorizing a remote Newfoundland town.

Created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy), the upcoming horror series has received its official trailer ahead of its October 8, 2026 premiere on Netflix.

Hartnett leads the cast alongside Charlie Heaton, Mackenzie Davis, Rohan Campbell, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, and Willow Kean.

Below follows a grizzled fisherman who is forced to protect his family and the people of his isolated community when an unknown sea creature begins terrorizing the Newfoundland town.

The series reportedly draws inspiration from filmmakers John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg, and that influence is immediately apparent in the trailer. There are shades of Jaws, The Fog, and The Thing throughout, with the series also carrying the eerie, unknowable quality of classic Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft.

Fans may also find some similarities to the recently released horror series Widow’s Bay, another creature-focused story influenced by Carpenter and Spielberg. However, Below appears to be taking a much darker and more straight-faced approach, leaning heavily into atmospheric horror rather than horror-comedy.

Interestingly, Netflix is keeping its monster firmly in the shadows. The trailer doesn’t offer so much as a quick glimpse of the mysterious creature terrorizing the town, suggesting that Netflix may be saving the big reveal for the series itself.
