‘The Mandela Catalogue’ – Steven Spielberg-Produced Horror Movie Gets 2028 Release Date

The viral analog horror series The Mandela Catalogue is officially heading to the big screen, and Steven Spielberg is helping bring it to theaters.

Following the success of Backrooms at the box office, Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is producing a feature adaptation of the popular YouTube horror series alongside United Artists and Amazon MGM Studios.

The Mandela Catalogue will hit theaters on June 9, 2028.

Created by Alex Kister, The Mandela Catalogue launched on YouTube in 2021 and has become one of the platform’s biggest original analog horror franchises, with more than 100 million views across its official episodes.

The story takes place in the fictional Mandela County, Wisconsin, where a terrifying species of shape-shifting creatures known as Alternates begins infiltrating society.

Nearly immortal and capable of manipulating televisions, computers, GPS systems, and other forms of media, the creatures psychologically torment their victims as part of a larger plan to eradicate humanity.

At the center of the mythology is a sinister false version of the Archangel Gabriel, who leads the Alternates in their campaign against humanity.

Kister will direct the movie and co-wrote the screenplay with Tyler Clifton, adapting his original YouTube series for the big screen.

Spielberg and Holly Bario are producing for Amblin Entertainment, alongside Aaron B. Koontz for Paper Street Pictures and Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt for United Artists. Kister and Clifton are also producing.

The Mandela Catalogue arrives exclusively in theaters on June 9, 2028.
