‘Don’t Breathe 3’ – Jane Levy and Stephen Lang Returning for New Sequel

Nearly a decade after Don’t Breathe terrified audiences, the franchise is officially heading back into the darkness with a third installment.

Even better for fans of the original, Jane Levy and Stephen Lang are both set to return for Don’t Breathe 3.

Levy played Rocky, the resourceful young woman at the center of the 2016 home-invasion thriller, while Lang portrayed the terrifying Norman Nordstrom, the visually impaired former Navy SEAL better known as the Blind Man.

The two characters took very different paths following the first film. Lang returned for 2021’s Don’t Breathe 2, which transformed Norman from the antagonist of the original into a brutal antihero. Levy, meanwhile, did not appear in the sequel, leaving Rocky’s fate unresolved.

That appears to be changing with the third movie.

During a Beyond Fest Q&A over the weekend, director Fede Alvarez confirmed that a screenplay for Don’t Breathe 3 exists and revealed that both Levy and Lang are expected to return.

Alvarez directed the original Don’t Breathe, which hit theaters in 2016 after his work with Levy on the Evil Dead remake. The filmmaker has since gone on to direct projects including Alien: Romulus.

Don’t Breathe 2 was directed by Rodo Sayagues, who co-wrote the original with Alvarez. The sequel continued Norman’s story while leaving Rocky’s whereabouts a mystery.

Sayagues previously suggested that Rocky could eventually return, noting that neither character had truly escaped the consequences of the first film.

“I think stories are never wrapped,” Sayagues told ComicBook.com while promoting the sequel. He pointed out that both Norman and Rocky had committed crimes and were carrying unresolved baggage from the events of the first movie.

Rocky escaped with stolen money in the original film, while Norman survived the brutal confrontation that left his life forever changed. According to Sayagues, both characters had unresolved pasts that could eventually come back to haunt them.

For now, specific plot details for Don’t Breathe 3 remain under wraps. But with Jane Levy’s Rocky and Stephen Lang’s Blind Man both returning, the next chapter has the opportunity to reconnect with the characters who started the franchise.
