‘Crystal Lake’ TV Series Gets Official A24 Novelization This October
While fans wait for Peacock’s Crystal Lake to bring the world of Friday the 13th back to television, the highly anticipated prequel series is also expanding its story into a new medium. A24 is releasing an official Crystal Lake novelization, written by Tim Waggoner, this October.
Crystal Lake: The Novel arrives in bookstores and through A24’s online shop on October 15, 2026 — the same day all eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiere on Peacock.
What Is the Crystal Lake Novel About?
The novel takes readers back to 1971, years before Jason Voorhees became the iconic killer fans know today.
After 11-year-old Jason Voorhees drowns, his mother, Pam, is left devastated. But her grief gradually turns into something far more dangerous as disturbing discoveries begin to surface around the small town of Crystal Lake.
Determined to uncover the truth and carry out her own vengeance, Pam is forced to confront secrets from her past while discovering horrifying revelations about Jason’s childhood.
A24 Publishing describes the book as a darkly comic and brutally grisly reinterpretation of the origins of Pam and Jason Voorhees, expanding the story into a paranoid slasher tale.
Tim Waggoner Writes the Crystal Lake Novelization
The Crystal Lake novel was written by Tim Waggoner, whose previous work includes the novelization of Terrifier 3. The book is based on the upcoming Peacock series developed by Brad Caleb Kane, while its characters originate with Victor Miller and the Friday the 13th franchise.
For Kane, the opportunity to turn Crystal Lake into a novel is particularly meaningful.
The filmmaker has previously discussed his lifelong fascination with movie novelizations, which began after discovering books based on films he loved as a child. Among those formative experiences were E.T. and Friday the 13th Part 3, both of which helped shape his relationship with movies and storytelling.
That history made the Crystal Lake novelization something of a full-circle moment for Kane.
Kane specifically praised Waggoner’s ability to expand the psychology of Pamela Voorhees, explaining that the novel provides an opportunity to explore her thoughts and motivations in ways that television cannot always capture.
The result, according to Kane, serves as a companion to the series while diving much deeper into the mythology surrounding the Voorhees family.
Crystal Lake Arrives on Peacock This October
The timing of the book’s release makes it a major companion piece to the television series. All eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiere on Peacock on October 15, 2026, alongside the release of Waggoner’s novel.
For Friday the 13th fans, the book offers another way to explore the origins of Jason Voorhees and Pamela Voorhees while expanding the mythology introduced by the new series.
