Ryan Gosling’s ‘Ghost Rider’ Movie May Have Found Its Villain in Connor Storrie
Marvel Studios’ upcoming Ghost Rider movie may have found a formidable opponent for Ryan Gosling. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Connor Storrie (Joker: Folie à Deux, Heated Rivalry) is in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe project opposite Gosling.
While Storrie’s potential role has not been officially revealed, the casting news raises an intriguing question: could the actor be playing one of Ghost Rider’s most notorious supernatural enemies?
Ryan Gosling to Play Johnny Blaze in ‘Ghost Rider’
Gosling is set to portray Johnny Blaze, the iconic motorcycle stunt performer who becomes the Spirit of Vengeance after making a deal with the devil. The character first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1972, created by writer Gary Friedrich and artist Mike Ploog.
Blaze’s transformation gives him a flaming skull, supernatural abilities, and a fiery motorcycle, turning him into one of Marvel’s most visually distinctive antiheroes.
The upcoming film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 28, 2028. Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) will direct, with Jonathan Tropper (Star Wars: Starfighter) writing the screenplay.
Who Could Connor Storrie Play?
Marvel has yet to confirm Storrie’s character, leaving plenty of room for speculation. Ghost Rider has faced numerous demonic adversaries throughout the comics, but one particularly compelling possibility is Mephisto, the powerful demonic figure who manipulated Johnny Blaze into surrendering his soul.
Mephisto has already appeared in Marvel’s live-action universe, portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen in the Disney+ series Ironheart. The character also played a role in the mythology surrounding earlier Ghost Rider films, which featured Peter Fonda as Mephistopheles and Wes Bentley as his son, Blackheart.
However, there is currently no confirmation that Storrie will play Mephisto, Blackheart, or any other established Marvel villain. His casting remains in talks, and his eventual role has yet to be disclosed.
‘Ghost Rider’ Returns After Nicolas Cage’s Movies
Gosling’s version of Johnny Blaze will follow Nicolas Cage’s portrayal of the character in 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Gabriel Luna also played a different incarnation of the character, Robbie Reyes, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Luna was later attached to a planned Ghost Rider spinoff series for Hulu, but the project was ultimately canceled before production.
The new film will bring the character back to the big screen as part of the MCU, potentially giving Marvel an opportunity to explore Ghost Rider’s supernatural mythology on a larger scale.
‘Ghost Rider’ Targets 2027 Production
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ghost Rider is aiming to begin filming in New York in 2027. Linus Sandgren, whose cinematography credits include La La Land and No Time to Die, has reportedly joined the project as director of photography. The film is also expected to be shot on film.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce alongside Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Shawn Levy, and Ryan Gosling. Richie Palmer and Jessie Henderson will serve as executive producers.
With Gosling leading the film and Storrie potentially joining him, Marvel’s next take on the Spirit of Vengeance is beginning to take shape. For now, however, fans will have to wait for official confirmation of Storrie’s role and further details about the film’s story.
