In this MGM+ original docuseries, viewers will peer into the dark and twisted world of Ed Gein, known as “The Plainfield Ghoul” and “The Mad Butcher.” The series peels back the layers of this horrifying grave robber and serial killer, offering an unprecedented look into his psyche.

For years, filmmakers, journalists, and scholars have attempted to decipher the mind of this infamous murderer. With the aid of never-before-heard recordings and fresh revelations, audiences will be transported to late-1950s Middle America, immersing themselves in the perverse mind of Gein. The series delves into Gein’s troubled upbringing and his disturbing relationship with his mother (the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho”), his early grave-robbing escapades, the string of murders that led to his capture, and the spine-chilling discovery of his house of horrors by the police.

Michael Wright, the head of MGM+, comments, “This gripping and disturbing docuseries shines a light on an infamous chapter in our true-crime history. ‘Psycho’ takes an in-depth look at not only the life of one of the most notorious serial killers of our time but also explores the impact his crimes had on both the victims and our culture.”

Jill Latiano Howerton and Josh Kunau also serve as executive producers for Roots Productions, while Amazon & MGM Studios Distribution will handle international distribution for the series. Prepare to be both disturbed and captivated when “Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein” peels back the layers of this chilling chapter in true-crime history.
