‘The Walking Dead: Betrayal’ to Be Removed from Sale Tomorrow, Refunds to Follow
Skybound and Other Ocean Interactive have announced the cessation of development on The Walking Dead: Betrayal, three months after its Early Access debut. The game is set to be removed from Steam tomorrow, with servers shutting down on December 15. All purchasers of the game, irrespective of their playtime, will receive complete refunds.
In their announcement, the developers expressed gratitude to players for their participation, feedback, and betrayal within the game. Despite their efforts, the creators acknowledged their inability to foster the envisioned vibrant community of double-crossers: “Thank you to everyone who played, betrayed, and provided feedback! Your support and engagement mean everything to us. We look forward to bringing more awesome The Walking Dead experiences to you in the future.”
The gameplay of The Walking Dead: Betrayal resembled Other Ocean’s previous title, Project Winter, wherein players collaborated to fulfill objectives and evade hordes of walkers. However, covert ‘traitors’ amid the group schemed to impede progress and prevent escape, fostering distrust and causing chaos within the team.
This decision follows the lukewarm reception of another recent game within The Walking Dead universe, Destinies, which debuted last month on consoles and launched on PC on December 1.
