During the recent Fear Fest 2023 event, Andrés Borghi and Tobías Rusjan introduced a captivating new survival horror game titled “Tenebris Somnia.” This upcoming title draws inspiration from iconic classics such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill while infusing a unique twist with its 8-bit graphics and live-action cutscenes. As of now, a demo of the game is available on the Steam platform, offering players a taste of the chilling experience.

The narrative of “Tenebris Somnia” revolves around a young woman plagued by nightmares involving menacing creatures targeting her ex-boyfriend. Concerned for his safety, she decides to visit his residence. Upon her arrival, she finds that he is conspicuously absent. Still holding a key to his place, she ventures inside to investigate. What awaits her inside the apartment transcends the initial chaos she encounters.

A standout feature of “Tenebris Somnia” is its innovative use of cinematics. At pivotal moments within the game, it seamlessly transitions from an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent of classic NES titles, albeit with more intricate sprite work. This shift leads players into live-action cutscenes featuring real actors, professionally crafted by a film crew. It evokes a similar sense of suspense as the iconic zombie reveal in the original Resident Evil, albeit with a distinct visual flair.

Currently, the demo accessible on the game’s Steam page offers roughly 20 minutes of gameplay, featuring a blend of puzzle-solving and combat to provide a tantalizing glimpse of what the full game will offer. While an official release date remains undisclosed, “Tenebris Somnia” is unquestionably a project worth keeping a vigilant eye on, primarily due to its remarkable visual presentation.
