IGN has released another tantalizing clip from “Alan Wake 2,” and this latest 5-minute gameplay footage reunites Alan Wake with an old acquaintance.
The clip unfolds in The Dark Place, a nightmarish rendition of New York where Alan is currently trapped. However, he’s not alone in this eerie setting. Alan encounters a familiar face, none other than the jacket-wearing, paisley tie-sporting detective Alex Casey, the protagonist from Wake’s renowned crime book series.
It’s worth noting that despite being voiced by James McCaffrey and sharing the likeness of Sam Lake, Remedy Entertainment’s Creative Director, Alex Casey is not Max Payne (although Max is set to make a comeback soon). According to Lake, this iteration of Casey is characterized as “more over-the-top hardboiled” compared to previous versions. Lake explains that this rendition of Casey draws from the same noir influences and love for the genre as Max Payne, right down to an outfit that is “reminiscent of Brad Pitt’s character in the neo-noir film, Se7en.”
The gameplay clip is not solely focused on dialogue, as it also showcases Alan navigating the dimly lit alleyways of The Dark Place, with enigmatic shadowy figures passing by. Eventually, Alan is compelled to engage in combat.
Originally slated for release next month, “Alan Wake 2” is now set to launch on October 27th for PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
