Prepare for a chilling deep dive into the twisted psyche of the real-life killer and grave-robber Ed Gein in the upcoming true crime docuseries, “Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein.” This four-episode series, set to premiere on MGM+ in September, delves into the horrifying crimes of Gein, whose heinous acts inspired iconic horror movie villains.

Directed and executive produced by James Buddy Day, known for his work on Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror and Fall River, “Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein” aims to unravel the enigmatic mind of this notorious killer. Through new revelations and never-before-heard recordings, viewers will be transported to the late 1950s Middle America, immersing themselves in Gein’s disturbing thoughts and actions.

The docuseries explores Gein’s upbringing, his twisted relationship with his mother (which famously influenced Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho”), his early grave-robbing endeavors, the murders leading up to his arrest, and the chilling discovery of his house of horrors by the police. Accompanied by the shocking revelations unveiled in the recordings, the series provides a comprehensive and disturbing account of Gein’s life and crimes.

Michael Wright, the head of MGM+, expressed the impact of the series, stating, “This gripping and disturbing docuseries shines a light on an infamous chapter in our true-crime history. ‘Psycho’ takes an in-depth look at not only the life of one of the most notorious serial killers of our time but also explores the impact his crimes had on both the victims and our culture.”

Jill Latiano Howerton and Josh Kunau also serve as executive producers for Roots Productions, contributing to the production of this gripping and harrowing series. The international distribution of the series will be handled by Amazon & MGM Studios Distribution, ensuring its reach to a global audience.
