The first trailer for the upcoming Hulu Original Series “The Clearing,” which is based on the best-selling crime novel In The Clearing by author J.P. Pomare, was released. It provides a deeper look at the cult that serves as the series’ focal point.

“Are you ready for your Clearing?” a character in the new trailer menacingly asks a child.

Elise McCredie, Matt Cameron, and Osamah Sami collaborated to compose “The Clearing,” inspired by actual cults in Australia and other countries. The premiere of this season is scheduled for May 24, 2023.

The eight-part television series is described as “an emotional and psychological thriller that follows the nightmares of a cult and a woman forced to face the demons from her past to stop the kidnapping and coercion of innocent children in the future.”

The Australian cast, which also includes Hazem Shammas (“Safe Harbour”), Mark Coles-Smith (“Mystery Road”), Kate Mulvany (“The Twelve”), and Julia Savage (“Blaze,” “Mr. Inbetween”), is led by Teresa Palmer (“Discovery of Witches,” “Lights Out”), Miranda Otto (“Talk to Me,” Annabelle: Creation), and Guy Pearce (“Prometheus,” “Ravenous”).

The trailer shows Palmer as the lead character dealing with her own trauma, which makes it harder for her to save helpless children. The trailer, which was shot throughout Victoria, has an ominous vibe that suggests the distinctions between the past and present as well as between reality and nightmare will be hazy.

The real-life cult is known as “The Family,” which operated in Victoria from the 1960s to the 1990s and was one of the few created by women, and served as the basis for Pomare’s source novel. We should probably anticipate a lot of darkness in this Hulu Original Series because it preyed on youngsters.

Jeffrey Walker (“Young Rock,” “Lambs of God”) and Gracie Otto (“Seriously Red,” “Bump,” “Deadloch”) are the directors of “The Clearing.”

On May 24, 2023, Hulu will debut the first two episodes of the eight-episode psychological thriller. Subsequent episodes will air every Wednesday after that.
