The horror comedy series “Shining Vale” made its debut on Starz in March 2022, and it was confirmed last month that the show’s second season is set to premiere next month, specifically on Friday, October 13th. With the release date approaching, a trailer for “Shining Vale” season 2 has been unveiled online, and you can watch it in the embedded video above.
Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, the first season of “Shining Vale” follows a dysfunctional family that relocates from the city to a small town and settles into a house with a grim history of terrible events. However, no one seems to notice except for Patricia “Pat” Phelps, who believes she’s either depressed or possessed – as it turns out, the symptoms are virtually the same. Pat is a former “wild child” who gained fame by writing a raunchy women’s empowerment novel, but now, 17 years later, she’s clean and sober but unfulfilled. She hasn’t written her second novel, her marriage is strained, and her teenage kids want nothing to do with her. Her one mistake was a torrid affair with the young handyman who came to fix the sink while her husband, Terry, was at work. In a final effort to save their marriage, they move their family to an old suburban house with a dark history. Everyone has their demons, but for Pat Phelps, they might be all too real.
The cast of “Shining Vale” includes Courteney Cox as Patricia “Pat” Phelps, Greg Kinnear as Terry Phelps, Merrin Dungey as Pat’s friend and book editor Kam, Gus Birney and Dylan Gage as Pat and Terry’s teenage kids Gaynor and Jake, Mira Sorvino as Rosemary (who may be Pat’s alter ego, split personality, muse, or a demon trying to possess her), Sherilyn Fenn as realtor Robyn Court, and Judith Light as Joan, Pat’s lithium-infused mother, who has a history of battling mental illness.
The first season concluded with Pat being committed to a psychiatric hospital. Season 2 picks up four months later, as Pat’s insurance coverage runs out, and she is released from the psychiatric hospital ahead of schedule. She returns home, eager to mend her fractured family, but she soon discovers that her children don’t need her, Terry doesn’t remember her, and to make matters worse, her new neighbor Ruth looks exactly like Rosemary. Adding to the intrigue, the house begins to unveil the shocking secrets of its dark past.
“Shining Vale” is produced by Lionsgate and Warner Bros. Television, in association with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Jeff Astrof’s Other Shoe Productions, and Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s Merman. The show’s executive producers include Jeff Astrof, Sharon Horgan, Clelia Mountford, Aaron Kaplan, and Dana Honor, with Courteney Cox serving as a producer. The pilot episode was directed and executive produced by Dearbhla Walsh.
