Prepare for a Mega-Sized Sixth Season of The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs’
Exciting news for horror fans! Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy are set to make their return in the upcoming sixth season of their popular Shudder series, “The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs.” This news comes exclusively from Deadline, and there’s even better news to sweeten the deal – this season is going to be “super-sized.” Deadline reports that this new season will feature Joe Bob Briggs hosting and dissecting more than 30 films, setting a new record for the show.
But that’s not all. Joe Bob Briggs, the world’s foremost drive-in movie critic, is going all out to entertain fans. Before the sixth season kicks off, he’ll be back for two Halloween-themed specials in October, a holiday special in December, and a Valentine’s Day special in February. And the excitement doesn’t stop there. In March 2024, “The Last Drive-In” will transition to a new series format.
So, what’s this intriguing “new format” all about? According to Deadline, “The Last Drive-In” will now focus on showcasing one movie every other Friday night, departing from the familiar double-feature format.
Joe Bob Briggs himself shared his excitement about the news, saying, “As everyone knows, you should never invite me into your home because I always show up. Shudder has graciously invited me to stick around for a sixth year, and I intend to use that kindness to haunt your phones, laptops, and big-screen TVs with the most ghastly examples of perversity in the history of cinema. Plus a few old jokes and some celebrity guests who will still return our phone calls. Put it all together and it spells PARTAY.”
AMC’s Courtney Thomasma also expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We’re delighted to bring Joe Bob, Darcy, and the rest of The Last Drive-In Team back for our biggest season yet of crazy, scary, and crazy-scary movies and specials, with the most entertaining commentary on TV. Joe Bob will be hosting more movie nights than any previous season, and we can’t wait to continue the Friday night party.”
For the past few years, “The Last Drive-In” has been a beloved tradition for horror enthusiasts, bringing fans together for Friday night double features that ignite lively conversations on social media platforms.
The series is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell and directed by Austin Jennings. With a “super-sized” season on the horizon and a new format to look forward to, fans of “The Last Drive-In” have plenty to anticipate in the coming months.
