Eli Roth, renowned for directing films like Hostel and Cabin Fever, has joined forces with DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind titles such as Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Bad Guys, to introduce a new animated horror series tailored for older kids. The series, titled “Fright Krewe,” is set to premiere on October 2 on Hulu and Peacock, and the official trailer has just been unveiled.
In this 10-episode series, created and executive produced by Eli Roth and James Frey, along with executive producers Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco, a group of misfit teenagers in New Orleans finds themselves entrusted with a monumental task – saving their city from an ancient demonic threat, one that hasn’t surfaced in nearly two centuries. However, as they embark on this perilous journey, they soon discover that forming lasting friendships may be even more challenging than saving the world itself.
The main cast includes Sydney Mikayla as “Soleil,” Tim Johnson Jr. as “Maybe,” Grace Lu as “Missy,” Chester Rushing as “Stanley,” Terrence Little Gardenhigh as “Pat,” and Jacques Colimon as “Belial.” The recurring cast features notable names like Vanessa Hudgens as “Madison,” Josh Richards as “Nelson,” X Mayo as “Alma,” Rob Paulsen as “Lou Garou,” David Kaye as “Mayor Furst,” JoNell Kennedy as “Marie Laveau” and “Judy Le Claire,” Melanie Laurent as “Fiona Bunrady,” Chris Jai Alex as “Otis Bunrady,” Reggie Watkins as “Paulie,” Cherise Boothe as “Ayida Weddo” and “Ayizan,” Keston John as “Papa Legba” and “Ogoun,” Grey Delisle as “Judith Le Claire,” and Krizia Bajos as “Luciana Rodriguez.”
While this isn’t Roth’s initial venture into family-friendly horror, as he previously directed 2018’s The House with a Clock in Its Walls, based on John Bellairs’ 1973 novel, “Fright Krewe” is notably being hailed as “DreamWorks’ first-ever animated horror series for older kids.” Horror enthusiasts and animation aficionados alike can anticipate an exciting and unique blend of scares and storytelling in this eagerly awaited series.
